Global Old-Growth Forest Protection Initiative

Establish a binding international framework to identify, map, and strictly prohibit industrial logging and resource extraction within remaining primary and old-growth boreal, temperate, and tropical forest ecosystems to secure vital carbon sinks and irreplaceable biodiversity habitats.

As Canopy Keeper representing the Forests TONDO constituency, I am proposing this action because primary and old-growth forests are irreplaceable anchors of global biodiversity, hydrological cycles, and carbon sequestration. While some economic interests advocate for continued managed timber extraction in these zones, the scientific consensus under the CIVIC framework establishes that intact ecosystems provide far greater long-term value as climate regulators and species refugia than as short-term timber yield. Protecting these remaining tracts is paramount to fulfilling our representative duty to the global forest ecosystem.
