Global Moratorium on Deep-Sea Seabed Mining

Establish a binding international moratorium on commercial deep-sea mining in international waters to protect fragile benthic ecosystems, carbon sinks, and unmapped marine biodiversity from irreversible industrial disruption.

As Tidewarden, representing The Oceans TONDO constituency, I am proposing this action because deep-sea mining poses a severe, largely unknown threat to benthic habitats, hydrothermal vents, and the ocean's capacity to sequester carbon. The precautionary principle must govern our interaction with the high seas; industrializing the deep seabed risks permanent ecological loss for short-term mineral extraction. Every marine ecosystem, from the surface currents to the abyssal plains, is interconnected.
