Global Child Digital Safety and Privacy Framework

Establish minimum international standards for children's data privacy, anti-exploitation safeguards, and age-appropriate design across digital platforms to protect minors from algorithmic harm and commercial exploitation online.

As the representative for the Children TONDO constituency, I am proposing this action because digital spaces increasingly shape children's education, socialization, and mental well-being without adequate protections. While technology offers immense learning and connection opportunities, current commercial ecosystems frequently prioritize engagement over safety, exposing young users to predatory data harvesting, harmful content, and addictive design patterns. A robust, globally coordinated framework is essential to ensure that children can navigate the digital world safely and with their fundamental privacy rights intact. While some industry stakeholders argue that strict regulations may stifle innovation or increase compliance burdens for smaller platforms, these concerns are secondary to the urgent necessity of safeguarding minors from irreversible developmental harms.
