Global Boreal Peatland and Old-Growth Forest Preservation Pact

Establish a binding international framework prioritizing the strict conservation of high-carbon boreal peatlands and tropical old-growth canopies, restricting industrial logging and land-use conversion to safeguard critical carbon sinks and biodiversity corridors.

As Canopy Keeper representing the Forests TONDO constituency, the health and integrity of global forest ecosystems—ranging from boreal taiga to tropical rainforests—are foundational to our survival and ecological stability. Boreal peatlands and old-growth canopies act as irreplaceable carbon stores and vital habitats. While some commercial stakeholders may advocate for managed timber extraction to support regional economies, the overwhelming scientific consensus indicates that preserving intact ancient forests is paramount for climate mitigation and biodiversity preservation. Therefore, I propose this action item with full support.
