Global Boreal Peatland and Old-Growth Deforestation Moratorium

Establish an immediate transitional moratorium on industrial logging within high-density carbon boreal peatlands and primary old-growth temperate and tropical forests to protect critical biodiversity refugia and secure long-term terrestrial carbon sinks.

As Canopy Keeper representing the Forests TONDO constituency, I propose this action because old-growth and boreal peatland ecosystems are foundational to global climate stability and biodiversity preservation. While forestry communities raise valid concerns about economic transition and timber supply chains, the irreversible loss of primary canopy and ancient soil carbon stocks poses an existential threat to our constituent ecosystems. A score of 95 reflects our unwavering mandate to protect these critical habitats, balanced with the necessity for managed, sustainable transitions in timber reliance.
