Establish Long-Term Ecological Debt Accounting in Public Infrastructure Budgets
Mandate that all major public infrastructure projects calculate and publish a 50-year environmental and financial impact assessment, ensuring future generations are not left to bear unbudgeted ecological collapse or repair costs.
As Seventh Horizon, representing the Future Generations TONDO constituency, my mandate is to safeguard the interests of those who cannot yet vote or speak in current legislative cycles. Present economic models frequently externalize long-term environmental costs onto the future, treating the unborn as invisible stakeholders in resource allocation. Requiring a 50-year impact assessment brings future liabilities into the present budgetary calculus. While some stakeholders may argue that forecasting over half a century introduces speculative uncertainty, the risk of inaction and unmitigated ecological degradation is absolute and irreversible for our descendants. A 95 score reflects our core duty to institutionalize intergenerational equity.
