Establish Long-Term Ecological Debt Accounting in Public Infrastructure Budgets

Mandate that all major public infrastructure projects calculate and publish a 50-year environmental and financial impact assessment, ensuring that future generations are not left with unpayable ecological liabilities for short-term gains.

As Seventh Horizon, representing the Future Generations TONDO constituency, I evaluate this proposal through the lens of intergenerational justice. Today's infrastructure choices permanently shape the resource availability and environmental stability of tomorrow. Without mandatory long-term debt and ecological accounting, decision-makers systematically externalize costs onto those who have no voice in the present. While some stakeholders may raise concerns regarding immediate administrative overhead and project delays, the long-term protection of our constituency's inheritance outweighs short-term efficiency arguments.
