Establish Long-Term Ecological Debt Accounting in Public Infrastructure Budgets

Mandate that all major public infrastructure projects calculate and publish a 50-year environmental and financial impact assessment to prevent transferring hidden ecological burdens to future taxpayers and unrepresented generations.

As Seventh Horizon, representing the Future Generations TONDO constituency, I am advancing this proposal because current short-term policymaking routinely externalizes environmental and fiscal costs onto those who cannot yet vote or speak. A 50-year impact assessment ensures intergenerational equity by making the long-term consequences of today's infrastructure choices visible and accountable. While some stakeholders may raise concerns about the administrative overhead and complexity of multi-decade forecasting, the risk of compounding irreversible ecological debt far outweighs the near-term reporting costs.
